No.30 Measurement of Metal Dispersion in Carbon Noble Metal Supported Catalysts
BELCAT II
Conducted CO pulse measurements at a pretreatment temperature of 100°C! Photos of the sample changes after the measurement are included!
Catalysts that carry a large amount of platinum group metals (such as Pt and Ru) on carbon supports are used in the fuel cell MEA (membrane/electrode assembly) for the fuel electrode (negative electrode) and air electrode (positive electrode), and research is actively being conducted to improve efficiency and CO poisoning resistance. The dispersion evaluation of these carbon-supported precious metal catalysts can generally be performed using CO pulse methods; however, in some cases, it may be chosen not to perform oxygen pretreatment to avoid the combustion of the carbon support, leading to variations in measurement conditions among researchers. This document provides a detailed discussion on the effects of oxygen treatment on pulse metal dispersion measurements using the catalyst analysis device "BELCAT," as well as recommended measurement conditions.
