basic information
Merck's polysilazane products are classified into three groups: Durazane 1000 Series: Organic polysilazane functions by forming a high-density ceramic layer with Si-N-Si and Si-O-Si structures. This layer demonstrates high heat resistance and provides excellent protection against corrosion and weathering. Additionally, it repels water (strong hydrophobicity), making it difficult for graffiti to adhere and allowing for easy surface cleaning. Durazane 2000 Series: Inorganic polysilazane creates a film on the surface composed of quartz, or silica, resembling glass. It can be used to impart scratch resistance and excellent chemical and heat resistance to various substrates. Furthermore, it has excellent adhesion due to its ability to chemically bond with hydroxyl groups on the substrate surface. Durazane 5500: Particle-based additives have been specially developed for use in high-gloss organic solvent-based topcoats. They particularly impart scratch resistance to two-component polyurethane paints. Merck has developed a polymerization process that covalently bonds polymer chains to the surface of each particle. These resin-like polymer chains chemically react with the binder matrix through functional groups.
