No. 20 Evaluation of Hydrophilicity and Hydrophobicity of CNTs by Water Vapor and Nitrogen Adsorption Isotherms
BELSORP
We will introduce the evaluation of the hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of CNT using water vapor and nitrogen adsorption isotherms!
N2 adsorption uniformly covers the material surface, while H2O adsorption preferentially attaches to the hydrophilic sites on the material surface. Therefore, using both adsorbates allows for the evaluation of the material's hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity. From the N2@77.4 K adsorption isotherms of the carbon nanotubes CNT-A and CNT-B shown in the figure, they are classified as Type VI and Type II, respectively. When a BET plot is constructed, the BET (N2) specific surface area is determined to be 10.4 m²/g for CNT-A and 44.6 m²/g for CNT-B. Additionally, the results of the H2O@298.15 K adsorption isotherms for both samples are displayed in the figure.
