Regional disaster prevention refers to conducting disaster prevention tailored to the characteristics of each area.
Prefectures and municipalities create their respective regional disaster prevention plans based on the Disaster Countermeasures Basic Act. These regional disaster prevention plans outline disaster measures that take into account the characteristics of each area. For example, local governments in mountainous regions provide detailed responses in the event of heavy rain or landslides. In this way, populations differ by region, as do age demographics and types of buildings. Since the terrain and climate also vary, even if the "same earthquake" occurs, the approach to disaster measures will differ.
