Among aramid fibers, properties such as tensile strength, impact resistance, fatigue resistance, and chemical resistance are excellent.
Japan, with its many active volcanoes, often faces sudden eruptions. Even when people take refuge in mountain huts, there are still cases of injuries or fatalities caused by volcanic rocks raining down through the roofs. Urgent measures are needed. The locations of mountain huts are at high altitudes, making it difficult to bring in heavy machinery. Additionally, reinforcing the roofs with steel or concrete requires strengthening the structure to bear the added weight. Currently, attention is being drawn to the very durable para-aramid fibers used in cut-resistant gloves. These fibers can withstand volcanic rocks flying at speeds of 300 km/h and are being used for roof reinforcement sheets in mountain huts. When extensively reinforcing structures with steel or concrete, heavy machinery must be transported, and long construction periods are required. In contrast, aramid fiber sheets are lightweight, making them easy to carry by hand. Moreover, only the roofs need to be worked on, allowing for short construction periods and low-cost reinforcement. No special technology is required, making it easy for regular roofing contractors to install these sheets. *1: Para-aramid fibers: Among aramid fibers, they are particularly known for their strength, bullet resistance, and cut resistance, with products such as Technora, Twaron, and Kevlar available.
