This is a device for testing the resistance to scratching, shifting, cutting, abrasion, and engraving of various materials. It is portable and can test square or circular samples with a thickness of up to 12.7mm (1/2 inch) and a side length or diameter of 101mm (4 inches). The height of the graduated arm is adjusted according to the thickness of the sample. The diamond cutting needle is brought into contact with the surface of the sample, and the switch is turned on.
