The "Red Relief Map" is a three-dimensional representation technique of terrain that uses the saturation of red to indicate the degree of slope and brightness to represent ridge and valley characteristics. It overcomes the shortcomings of traditional terrain representation methods (vulnerability to scaling, directional dependence, the need for stereoscopic vision or red-blue filters, etc.) and allows for various terrains to be depicted in detail and three-dimensionally in a single image.
