In 1975, a new hardness testing machine was developed by Dr. Leeb and Prosec AG (Switzerland). The product name "Eqoutip" was derived from the initials of the inventor "Dr. Leeb," along with "HL" for hardness, and "Energy" and "Quotient" for the commercial aspect. The Echo Chip hardness testing machine has gained worldwide recognition for its high testing accuracy and reliability, and it became an ASTM (USA) standard in 1996 and a DIN (Germany) standard in 2007.
