basic information
Effectiveness of LED Light Sources The distribution of light energy intensity by wavelength is referred to as spectral energy distribution, which varies depending on the light source, and its characteristics are called light quality. Plant growth is influenced by both the quality and intensity of light. LEDs can efficiently emit specific light qualities and, compared to other light sources such as incandescent bulbs and fluorescent lamps, they are energy-saving, produce less heat, and have a long lifespan. This suggests their potential as a light source to promote photosynthesis, regulate flowering, improve quality, and control pests and diseases in horticultural crops. Nabe Seiko Co., Ltd. is conducting joint research with the Aichi Prefectural Agricultural Research Center, using various horticultural crops to perform illumination tests with LEDs of different light qualities, and we propose effective utilization techniques for profitable growth in practical applications.

★Chrysanthemum In the Atsumi Peninsula of Aichi Prefecture, over 10,000 bulbs have been introduced. We have accumulated technical data on utilization technologies such as intermittent electric lighting that cannot be achieved with incandescent bulbs or fluorescent lights, and we can provide proposals that will help reduce fixed costs for LED-implementing producers in the future. ★Perilla The short-day plant perilla is very sensitive to light!? Depending on the light quality, flower bud differentiation can be suppressed with just about 2 lux of light. Currently, perilla producers are demonstrating in model houses that they can expect to recover the initial costs of LED implementation in just over a year. Strawberries, roses, carnations, lisianthus, tomatoes, grapes, and more are being utilized in electric cultivation across the country. With the cooperation of farmers, we are uploading performance information and photos to Facebook, so please take a look. Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/nabesei.kaihatu
Detailed information
-
Tomato Tomato farmers in Kumamoto Prefecture have started using red LEDs as supplemental lighting in areas with poor greenhouse sunlight conditions, allowing them to achieve growth similar to that in areas with good sunlight conditions. Currently, farmers in Aichi Prefecture are also conducting ongoing tests for implementation.
-
Strawberry Among producers who cultivate varieties that require artificial lighting, many use incandescent bulbs of 40W to 60W, but some have started switching to fluorescent lights. According to the results of artificial lighting tests conducted by us at testing institutions and producer fields, fluorescent lights differ in light quality from incandescent bulbs, making it difficult to maintain the revival of the plants, resulting in limited effectiveness. For producers in mountainous areas with poor sunlight conditions, using red LED lights of 9W as supplementary lighting has significantly increased yields.
-
Carnations There are differences in electric lighting effects between varieties, but in mid-late and late varieties (candle types), the growth promotion effect is significantly evident. It has a supplementary lighting effect in cases of unfavorable weather and poor sunlight conditions.
