The composition of silica gel is an extremely stable chemical product with over 99.5% silicon dioxide. This silicon is a substance that makes up 60% of the Earth's crust and exists naturally as quartz and crystal. Silica gel is non-water-soluble, non-hygroscopic (liquefying), non-corrosive, and non-toxic. Its internal structure consists of countless holes (pores), with a surface area of about 450 square meters per gram, equivalent to approximately 300 tatami mats. Due to its capillary structure, when humidity rises, it absorbs moisture from the surrounding environment, and when humidity decreases, it releases the absorbed moisture, helping to stabilize the humidity in the space. This process is repeated. It has excellent moisture absorption capacity at high humidity, with the ability to adsorb up to about 70% of its own weight in moisture.
