Vol.176 "From 'Safety Belt' to 'Fall Arrest Equipment'?"
As a fall arrest device, a full harness type is the principle; however, in cases where a wearer of a full harness may reach the ground during a fall (at a height of 6.75 meters or less), a "body belt type (single strap)" can be used. Furthermore, for work involving the use of full harness type fall arrest devices, it is necessary to receive "special safety and health education" due to amendments to the Labor Safety and Health Regulations and Special Education Regulations (4.5 hours of theory and 1.5 hours of practical training).

Falls from heights are the leading cause of death at work sites and can lead to serious injuries. When a fall accident occurs, the losses include the impact on the worker and their family, the trauma (mental suffering) experienced by coworkers, and various damages to the company, such as the loss of skilled workers, insurance payouts, and loss of credibility. Traditionally, there has been a 2-meter rule, which mandated the use of "safety belts" for work at heights of 2 meters or more.
