Realizing a new type of quantum computer - A universal optical quantum computing platform has launched -

A joint research group led by the team leader of the Quantum Computer Research Center at RIKEN (the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research), who is also the deputy director of the center and a professor at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Engineering, the team leader of the Quantum Control Research Team, and the president and CEO of NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) and Fixstars Amplify, has successfully developed a new type of quantum computer. This will serve as a platform for advanced general-purpose optical quantum computing.
Quantum computers are expected to solve various problems at ultra-high speeds by utilizing the principles of quantum mechanics, leading to intense development competition worldwide. The RIKEN Quantum Computer Research Center also unveiled a superconducting quantum computer in 2023.
