Mie University, Hitachi Kokusai Electric Inc., Dexerials Photonics Solutions Inc., KDDI Research, Inc., and Toyo Electric Co., Ltd. successfully conducted a field demonstration on October 27, 2024, transmitting live 4-channel uncompressed 4K video captured at the Suzuka Circuit in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, to the headquarters of a cable television operator 55 km away via an all-optical wireless transmission system and a fiber optic transmission system. This is the world's first transmission of uncompressed 4K multi-channel video using optical wireless technology in a real field, including existing optical fibers, with a communication speed of 100 Gbps.
