Our company, as part of an upcycling project that attempts to develop new products using materials from Aomori Prefecture and materials that would otherwise be discarded, collaborated with Yamazaki Shokudo to upcycle acrylic partitions that became unnecessary in stores due to the post-COVID era into information panels for customers. Instead of recycling the unnecessary acrylic partitions by mixing them with other materials, we considered whether they could be reused within the store by changing their role, and decided to transform the "boards that had been blocking" into "information boards for customers." By changing the information board from paper to a panel, we were able to reduce the use of paper along with the reuse of acrylic panels. Additionally, there is a case where acrylic partitions were reused as keychains in Minamimachi, Aomori Prefecture. This project began with the idea of utilizing Aomori's resources (materials), particularly focusing on those that can be recycled, including waste and incinerated materials, to develop products that connect Aomori's blessings (such as cherry blossoms and apple pruning branches) with the world. The aim is to achieve effective use of local materials to enhance Aomori Prefecture's new appeal and value, striving for a project that Aomori can be proud of. Specifically, we will narrow down products from a range of product groups that can be handled by various machinery and develop, introduce, and investigate samples. In particular, if the use of wood products is successful, it could contribute to the reduction of plastic use and the establishment of a circular society. We would like to introduce examples of our capsule toy "Gotoccha" sales. There are cases where we created products themed around local foods, cases inspired by symbols of the area, and cases where we collaborated with representative local companies to create special packages. The package for Kudo Bread's English Toast, which was born at the Ito-Yokado Hirosaki store, was later expanded to the Aomori and Hachinohe stores. In October 2024, we received a request from Aomori Prefecture and conducted a pop-up sale at the "Aomori Prefecture Fair" held at the Ito-Yokado Ario Kasai store, contributing to the lively atmosphere of the event, showcasing the local gachas' great success.
