**Construction of a Pure Wooden High-Rise Building in the City of Trees, Sendai** We have commenced the "Tentative Name: Sendai Station East Exit Project," which involves the construction of a 7-story pure wooden building in the area east of Sendai Station. The client is Takasou LLC, and the design and construction are by Shelter Co., Ltd. The building will be used for tenants, offices, and private residences. This will be the first high-rise wooden building in Japan to use sawn timber in its main structural components. **Japan's First! Use of Sawn Timber in the Main Structural Components of a High-Rise Building** In this project, JAS-certified sawn timber, which is commonly distributed, will be used for the main structural components. In areas where there are no laminated timber factories nearby, transportation costs are incurred to transport local wood to regions with such factories and then back again. However, if materials can be sourced locally, costs can be reduced. To realize high-rise construction with sawn timber, multiple pieces of timber will be bundled together to create columns and beams. There are few examples of using bundled timber, and this will be the first time it is adopted for the main structural components of a high-rise building. **Adoption of Fire-Resistant Wooden Materials COOL WOOD** The first to third floors will have a two-hour fire-resistant structure, while the fourth to seventh floors will have a one-hour fire-resistant structure, using COOL WOOD, a fire-resistant wooden material certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, for the columns and beams. Domestic cedar and larch will be used, actively utilizing timber from the Tohoku region.
