"Structural Starwood" is a high-strength, high-water-resistant MDF made primarily from waste wood materials such as demolition wood from buildings. When moisture from cutouts for outlet boxes and various control panels, as well as rainwater leaks, enters the wall and has nowhere to go, it can cause the columns to rot, increasing the risk of collapse during an earthquake. Structural Starwood has a property that allows it to transmit moisture more easily compared to wood-based surface materials of the same thickness. In 1994, it obtained ministerial certification for wall strength as MDF for two-by-four housing. Since then, it has expanded its use to conventional construction methods and has been adopted by many housing companies. Additionally, it has obtained special evaluation for floor strength and is being utilized in horizontal structural systems as Starwood sheathing and Starwood thick flooring.
