When considering energy efficiency in buildings, openings such as windows are the biggest issue regarding their insulation properties. In other words, openings intended for daylighting require transparency, while in winter, insulation, airtightness, and solar gain are necessary, whereas in summer, shading from sunlight and ventilation are required.
