Explain the characteristics and applications of NC turret lathes, NC front lathes, and NC vertical lathes.
■NC Turret Lathe
This refers to an NC lathe equipped with a rotating tool post called a turret.
The turret can hold various types of tools, allowing for tool changes as needed, which enables a variety of cutting processes and is suitable for mass production of the same parts.
■NC Face Lathe
This is a lathe specialized for facing, used when machining large disc-shaped workpieces with a large outer diameter relative to their length. The NC face lathe is characterized by its large face plate, allowing for the machining of large workpieces.
■NC Vertical Lathe
In contrast to a reciprocating table that moves horizontally, the NC vertical lathe has a spindle oriented vertically, with the cutting tool moving from top to bottom for turning.
Because the spindle is vertical, it minimizes spindle distortion, which is an advantage of the NC vertical lathe, allowing for high-precision machining.
