The history and evolution of people counting! A case study of implementation at a certain sports apparel brand's Harajuku flagship store.

We would like to introduce an early case study of our efforts in people counting. Our company has been engaged in the people counting business since around 2000, focusing on the development of systems that visualize visitor numbers and the flow of people within facilities. At that time, IoT sensors were not yet common, and the technology for data collection and analysis was not as advanced as it is today. In such a situation, we have independently tackled challenges to meet customer needs and support effective store operations. A symbolic example of this is the system we implemented at a certain sports apparel brand's Harajuku flagship store in 2006. This project not only demonstrated the potential of early-stage people counting technology but also laid the foundation for its subsequent evolution.
