A thorough explanation of the concept of DX!

Astec Consulting explains the purpose and essence of DX using the levels of DX.

Recently, I've been hearing various discussions about the introduction of DX (Digital Transformation) in many places, but I believe the reactions of "What is DX?" and "What should we do for DX?" are quite honest. What I want you to understand first about the introduction of DX is that there are different levels of implementation, and aiming for a higher level without any preparation will definitely lead to failure. In this article, we will introduce the objectives and essence of DX as understood by Astec Consulting, as well as the effects it can achieve, categorized by DX levels. We will explain how to approach DX and how to connect it to business results. Please take your time to read it thoroughly. *For detailed information, you can view it through the related links. Lead Time Reduction for Component Manufacturers [Free Seminar]

This is a must-see free seminar for the industrial equipment and control equipment industries! Please feel free to join us.

Mechanical components refer to individual parts or elements used in the operation of machines and devices. Their range includes switches and sensors, as well as valves and pumps, among others. Most products are assembled by humans using processed parts, which means productivity depends on people, resulting in a production plan with excess capacity and longer lead times. Production plans are influenced by market conditions such as capital investment, but if demand fluctuations can be responded to swiftly, there will be no confusion on the shop floor due to plan changes or troubles. This seminar will explain how to fundamentally review the production management system to achieve lead time reduction and improve productivity. ◆ Recommended for workplaces like this! ◆ - Frequent plan changes and troubles leading to regular delays in delivery - The shop floor is overflowing with parts and work-in-progress - Slow response to demand fluctuations resulting in high inventory - Frequent quality defects leading to a normalization of rework - Chronic defects that cannot be resolved, causing recurring complaints

Practical Approaches to Improve the Operating Rate of Machining Workplaces [Free Seminar]

Explaining the points to ensure stable operation through methods to improve operating rates by introducing efficient production management systems and maintenance plans for equipment.

In machining workplaces, the efficient operation of equipment and personnel is directly linked to productivity improvement. However, in many workplaces, factors such as setup changes and responses to demand fluctuations often prevent the maximum utilization of operating rates, leading to delays in parts delivery, increased manufacturing costs, and prolonged lead times. This seminar will explain methods to achieve improved operating rates by introducing efficient production management systems, as well as key points for ensuring stable operations through maintenance planning and optimization of personnel allocation. ◆ Recommended for workplaces like these! ◆ - Setup changes take too much time, causing production delays. - Production plans are unstable, leading to inconsistent machine operation. - There is a significant amount of downtime for equipment. - Delays in material supply are causing reduced operating rates. - Equipment maintenance is being postponed, resulting in unexpected stoppages.

Improvement of productivity through stabilization of plans by shipbuilding parts manufacturers.

Improving productivity is an essential proposition for the manufacturing industry! Here, we will introduce the significance of why stabilizing plans is important and how to proceed with it.

The shipbuilding industry is composed of shipowners, shipbuilders, and ship parts manufacturers, but it is not acceptable for parts manufacturers to delay construction plans due to their own circumstances. Parts manufacturers need to respond flexibly to delays in specifications and urgent requests, but in reality, it is often the mental strength of the workers on-site that keeps things going, which ultimately leads to a significant decrease in productivity. It is extremely important to stabilize the production system and build a structure that increases resilience to fluctuations, rather than just thinking, "It's fine as long as we managed to meet the deadline by brute force." This seminar will clearly introduce realistic solutions based on the actual situation of ship parts manufacturers. ◆ Recommended for workplaces like this! ◆ - There are many young workers on-site, and skills are not being passed down. - There are many unfinished tasks, causing storage issues. - There are frequent urgent requests from customers. - A production scheduler has been implemented but is not being used effectively. - There are many changes to the production plan, and adjustments are being made on-site.

[DX Case Study] Reforming the Work Style of Office Workers

A case where data on work records for about 40 people over two weeks was easily obtained!

We would like to introduce a case study of a company that has implemented digital transformation (DX) in its efforts to reform the working style of office workers using the "Continuous Time Analysis Method." At NX/NP Logistics, a logistics company dealing with home appliances and precision machinery, video recording was used to measure the working hours of office workers. However, after three days of video recording, only one day's worth of work records for two or three employees could be obtained. To address this, smartphones equipped with the app "Jobtan," a tool for measuring working hours, were distributed to approximately 40 staff members. This allowed for the easy collection of two weeks' worth of work record data from all 40 employees. [Case Overview] ■ Challenge: It took time and effort to convert work records into numerical data. ■ Result: The content of overtime work for sales administration, employees' work skills, and previously individualized tasks became clear, enabling concrete business improvements to be undertaken in response to these challenges. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

[Jobtan Introduction Case] Nakayo Corporation

An example of visualizing the movements of water purification in a cell production line (parts supply operations).

We would like to introduce a case where "Jobtan" has been implemented at Nakayo Co., Ltd., which is involved in the manufacturing of communication equipment. The company has been analyzing the movements of workers to improve the productivity of production cells, but they had not been able to grasp the current situation of indirect operations, specifically the water management tasks. As a result of the implementation, they were able to understand the work content, work time, and movement range of the water management tasks, which were previously not visible from an external perspective. [Results] ■ It became clear that tasks that should not take much time were taking longer, and that certain staff members were experiencing a heavy workload, allowing for the consideration of improvement measures. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

An attempt to evolve into a logistics platform that survives the 2024 problem.

Cooperation required between shippers and logistics operators against the backdrop of the 2024 issue.

The "2024 Problem," which has been widely covered by mass media and has become well-known to the general public, has finally arrived, and as someone involved in logistics, I have been anxiously awaiting this moment. In May, in the context of the 2024 Problem, two logistics laws were amended, mandating efforts to improve logistics efficiency and the clarification of contract terms related to truck transportation for shippers and logistics operators. This legal amendment is expected to promote improvements in business practices that have long hindered logistics efficiency, and as the next step after many companies have already implemented logistics efficiency measures, "cooperation between shippers and logistics operators" is anticipated. Additionally, with the contract terms for truck transportation becoming clear among stakeholders, it is expected that the requirements that were previously addressed by the actual transportation operators in response to the requests of the consignee will be improved through discussions among the general contractor, the shipper, and the consignee. *For more details on the blog, please refer to the related links. The 2024 Problem as Seen in In-House Logistics

Explaining considerations such as the importance of hardware in in-house logistics, which could be factors contributing to the 2024 issue.

In the logistics 2024 issue, challenges in logistics sites such as long-distance transportation and logistics centers, as well as the problem of missed deliveries in the last mile of parcel delivery, are often discussed. In this blog, we will take a slightly different perspective and introduce an example of the impact of last-mile logistics, known as "in-house logistics," in large facilities such as offices and commercial spaces, which could also be a factor in the 2024 issue in urban areas. *For more details about the blog, please refer to the related links. Logistics in Thailand - Transportation Edition (1)

A detailed introduction to the logistics situation in the Kingdom of Thailand, particularly regarding transportation, in a blog format!

The 2024 logistics issue in Japan marks the beginning of restrictions on the working hours of logistics workers, prompting various transformations. While there is an active movement towards automation in developed countries, what about developing countries? Japan continues to experience a declining population, and if nothing is done to stop it, the overall labor force in Japan is clearly set to decline. There is already a significant reliance on inbound tourism and foreign workers, and it is necessary to acknowledge diversity while also incorporating automation and labor-saving measures. On the other hand, I would like to know whether the working conditions for logistics workers in countries with growing populations are undergoing similar transformations as in Japan or if they are following a different trend. In this article, I would like to discuss the logistics situation in Thailand, where many Japanese companies have established operations, particularly focusing on transportation. *For more details, please refer to the related links. Vietnam's Logistics Situation Series I

Insufficient truck transport capacity and the era of energy conversion! Effective utilization of gas stations in Vietnam and Japan.

The muggy heat of the rainy season continues, but I hope everyone is doing well. In this article, I will report from my unique perspective on what I realized while returning to my hometown in Vietnam in May 2023, after gaining experience studying in Japan and learning about logistics. On July 20, 2004, Tokyo recorded its highest temperature ever at 39.5°C. This record high in Tokyo is a normal summer day in my hometown (Quang Tri Province in central Vietnam). When I returned in May, the temperature was over 39°C. At that time, Japan was around 20°C, so I was a bit surprised, but it was a new experience. Now, let me introduce my first and second days back home. *You can view the detailed content of the blog through the related links. For more information, please feel free to contact us.*
