The amount of air and the bubble spacing coefficient obtained from the bubble structure meter of hardened concrete are important indicators of resistance to freeze-thaw cycles. The measurement methods include the "Linear Traverse Method" and the "Modified Point Count Method" specified by ASTM, but both require significant time and effort, and there is a problem of individual differences in measurements. The image processing analysis method developed using PCs to solve this issue had not yet established image recognition technology. To address these problems, Marui developed a unique bubble structure measurement device. By filling the bubbles in the concrete sample with cyanoacrylate containing fluorescent dye and then irradiating the sample with ultraviolet light, only the bubble structure emits light. At the same time, by binarizing the brightness at a certain threshold, image processing became possible. The operation and handling are also simple, allowing for easier and faster measurement of bubble structures than before.
